Breaking Bad Season 5!!!!!!

So my favorite television show of all time returned tonight for the season five premier. A few episodes into the first season I knew this show was unique in an awesome way. Unlike the countless cliche dramas which are as predictable as a Saturday morning hangover, Breaking Bad never fails to deliver surprising moments while living by the "anything's possible" mantra. The realism contained within this show is almost shocking at times, which adds to the power of the raw emotion displayed by the characters. The drama is portrayed in a dark, gritty, and violent way through the brilliant acting of the entire cast, led by Bryan Cranston. Between this show, it's fellow AMC show The Walking Dead, and the TNT drama Southland, among others, it would seem that we are seeing a return to realistic, smart, "un-hollywood" like shows, first revolutionized by The Wire. This is similar to the current revitalization of more artistic, classic qualities of hip hop, which defined the 90s. With these two trends in entertainment, I gotta say I still have hope for mankind.

I gotta credit AMC as well. They're straight killing the game right now. With Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead they are on the forefront of this artistic revival in television. Yes the unique genres occupied by these two shows make them stand out in the crowded world of television. But what really sets these shows apart is superb acting and an impeccable script filled with unfiltered drama, a realistic atmosphere, and emotions so intense, that it must have been difficult for the actors to portray them. These two shows pay attention to the finest detail in order to ensure that each scene is perfect. The music and lighting are essential aspects to each of these shows, and often complete a scene. The video above is probably my favorite television scene of all time. It pretty much sums up what is so great about this show. Walt falls into a psychotic state, and laughs hysterically, until the realism of the moment hits him as the camera pans away. The music creates suspense and sends chills down the viewer's spine, which intensify as the music reaches a climax. The lighting is dark and grim, reminding the viewer that there are no happy endings in this show. Breaking Bad epitomizes everything a drama should be. I'm ready for a wild ride as this season continues.
